First seen on the bobbers and choppers of the late ‘40’s and early ‘50’s, this style of bar became increasingly popular thanks to early bike builders such as Denver Mullins, Mondo Porras and Arlen Ness. The name is symbolic of the ‘T’ shape of the bar.
Made to give the racing styled, flat wrist position like the drag bar but with a more upright and pulled back riding stance due to the use of the integrated risers. Amid the narrow lanes in places like ‘Cisco & San Bernardino, where the emerging chopper scene was developing, these bars allowed the rider to lane filter and move freely amongst the traffic, whilst also giving the custom look that the riders were going for.
The T-bar also allowed for more direct contact, feel and control, especially where it was needed on the extended, raked front ends that were a distinguishing feature of the chopper style.
